How to convert between WebP, PNG and JPG
WebP is an image format from Google that is smaller than JPG or PNG at the same quality, so it is widely used on websites. But older programs, some editors and documents cannot open WebP, which can be inconvenient. This tool converts WebP into PNG or JPG that open anywhere, and can also turn PNG/JPG into smaller WebP. WebP and JPG have a quality slider to balance size and clarity — 80–90 is usually indistinguishable from the original while much smaller. PNG is lossless and has no quality setting. PNG and WebP keep transparent backgrounds, but JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Use PNG or WebP when you need transparency, such as logos or icons. Frequently asked questions
A WebP file will not open. What can I do?
Older viewers and some editors or office tools still do not read WebP. Drop the file here and switch the output format to PNG or JPG and you get a file that opens anywhere. JPG is fine for photos with no transparency; PNG suits logos and icons.
I converted a PNG to JPG and the transparent background turned white.
JPG cannot store transparency at all, so this tool fills transparent areas with white before saving, which is why the background turns out white. Other converters leave those areas black — same cause, different fill colour. Choose PNG or WebP as the output format if you need the transparency preserved.
Which formats does the quality slider affect?
Only WebP and JPG. Both are lossy, so lowering the value shrinks the file at the cost of a little detail. PNG is lossless, so the slider does not appear for it and there is no quality setting. For photographs, 80–90 is usually hard to tell from the original while cutting size noticeably — start in that range.
Can I convert several images at once?
Yes. Add as many files as you like and they stack up in the list; changing the format or quality re-converts the whole list in one go. Save them one at a time from the list, or press Save all at the bottom to get everything in a single ZIP. Each file can be up to 30MB, and there is no fixed limit on how many, though a very long list can slow the browser down.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens on a canvas inside your browser and the files never leave your device. That means no sign-up and no waiting for an upload — a difference you feel most with large files — and it makes the tool safe for portraits or internal company material you would rather not put online.
Does it handle iPhone HEIC photos or animated GIFs?
It accepts WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF and BMP, and saves as WebP, PNG or JPG. Browsers cannot decode HEIC directly, so that needs a dedicated converter. If you add an animated GIF, only the first frame is converted.
