How to crop an image
Drop an image or click to choose one and editing starts right away. You can also take a screenshot and paste it with Ctrl+V. Drag the crop box to move it, and drag any of the eight corner dots to resize. Type numbers into the X, Y, width and height fields to set the crop to the exact pixel.
Pick a ratio button to lock the crop to that shape. 1:1 is common for profile pictures and icons, 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails and wide images, and 9:16 for stories. If your ratio is not listed, choose Custom and enter the width and height. Setting a custom output size scales the cropped area up or down before saving — for a 512 x 512 icon, crop at 1:1 and set the output size to 512.
You can save as PNG, JPG or WEBP. PNG keeps transparency and loses no quality, which suits icons and logos. JPG produces smaller files for photos. WEBP is the lightest at the same quality, though very old software may not open it. Everything runs inside your browser and the image is never sent to a server, so even sensitive files like IDs or contracts stay on your device.
Frequently asked questions
What aspect ratio should I use for a profile or ID photo?
A Korean resume photo is 3:4 and passport or ID photos are 35:45, which you can enter under Custom. For round avatars such as KakaoTalk or Instagram, crop at 1:1 so nothing important is clipped by the circular mask. If your ratio is not on the buttons, choose Custom and type the two numbers.
What pixel size do Instagram posts and YouTube thumbnails need?
A square Instagram post is 1080 by 1080, stories and reels are 9:16, and a YouTube thumbnail is 1280 by 720. Pick the matching ratio button, then switch Output size to Custom and enter 1080 or 1280 so the file is saved at exactly the dimensions the platform expects. Leave Keep aspect ratio checked and typing one side fills in the other.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
Cropping does not degrade the part you keep, but it does throw pixels away. If you crop down to 400 by 400 and then set the output size to 1200, the tool has to invent the missing detail and the result looks soft. When a photo will be used large, crop generously rather than tightly. Going the other way, saving a large photo at a smaller size is perfectly safe.
How do I set the crop to exact pixels?
Type numbers into the X, Y, width and height fields instead of dragging. The crop can go as small as 8 pixels and never extends past the edge of the image. If you lose track of the selection, press Reset to full image and start again from the whole picture. Of the eight dots, the corner ones move two edges at once.
Which format should I save as?
Use PNG for logos or anything that needs transparency, and JPG for photos where it is much smaller. WEBP is the lightest at the same quality. Choosing JPG or WEBP reveals a quality slider, and around 80 is plenty for photos. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick.
Is it safe to crop an ID or a document here?
